Now this is the way to start the New Year!

Since returning to work I have been slightly busy trying to catch up, but I just got a phone call that I felt was too important not to get the word out right away...

MICHAEL MORRILL HAS TOLD VARIOUS SOURCES, INCLUDING MULTIPLE ELECTED OFFICIALS, THAT HE WILL NOT RUN THIS PRIMARY AGAINST REP. CALTAGIRONE!!!!!!!

Now folks, you are going to love Mike's reasoning... "The Democratic Leaders who wanted him to run last year have come and told him not to run."

Now Mike, what leaders would that be? Mike, please name them and I will happily call them and ask if they told you not to run. If you name them and I confirm that what you say is true, I will happily post that you were being honest and publicly apologize to you.

Now here is what I think may really be happening (THAT MEANS IT IS MY OPINION, NOT FACT):

1. Supposedly our fellow Union did a poll for Mike in his bid against Rep. Caltagirone. The numbers probably came back showing the Rep. having a solid hold in his district with extremely strong positive numbers. I was told that one poll showed Rep Caltagirone with positives in the high 80 percentiles. That is impressive!

2. The Attorney General investigation into Mike's campaign finances is going forward and there is some concern about what may come from the investigation. I do understand that the Attorney General is taking all cases like this one very seriously.

Ohh Nefarious Blogger, before you comment about your "witch hunt", "investigation" - ummm, whatever you call your "research"; let me be clear on this point.) The cases are taken seriously, unless the cases are without merit because they are based on improper interpretation of the law, which the Nefarious Blogger seems to have such a penchant for these days.

3. Those of us who know Mike for his causes through the years are not exactly always enamored by the games he has played to push himself to the forefront. It is a well-known fact that other then some people in SEIU, Mike had NO support from any other Unions in his possible run. Matter of fact, at a large gathering of Union leaders and key players during the holidays, 99% of them said they were behind Rep Caltagirone and his strong record of support of the Unions over the years. Matter of fact, Bill George recently told a group of Union people when asked, that he is completely, without any reservations, behind Rep Caltagirone. My understanding is that this is pretty much across the board. I think that speaks volumes!

It does not matter, whatever the reason, Mike will portray it in whatever way helps Mike to sleep at night.

One final note to Mr. Dan Sauder...Mr. Sauder, there are a lot of other people who need your help this year. Please shake off the mud and move on. You are needed to team up with others to help BUILD the Party, NOT DESTROY IT! Let us get Democrats elected and re-elected this year. Based on comments I have seen from many within the Party, I see hands being offered in friendship and teamwork: reach out and grab them!

Respectfully, I am...

For Immediate Release

Local Business Owner Declares Candidacy for PA’s 128th District

Owner and operator of the Third & Spruce Café in West Reading and lifelong resident of Berks County, John Woodward, has officially filed with the PA Board of Elections to enter the race to unseat 8-term PA House incumbent Samuel E. Rohrer in the 128th District.

Woodward’s campaign filed nominating petitions with over 700 signatures demonstrating a strong showing of support for new leadership in the district and in Pennsylvania’s legislature. Support for Woodward stems from a long-standing history of community involvement and from owning a successful business in Berks for over 20 years.

John is a staunch advocate for public education having two daughters currently enrolled in the Wyomissing Area School District and currently serving as Trustee of Reading Area Community College since 2006. Additionally, John has served on the Wyomissing Area School District Board from 2000 to 2003, including President in 2002 and as a member of the Wyomissing Area School District Tax Study Commission in 2006, which studied options for property tax relief in the district. These experiences have exposed John to the myriad of issues dealing with property tax reform and public education, both of which will be an important aspect of Woodward’s campaign platform going forward and is something he believes Harrisburg has not sufficiently addressed.

Woodward has owned and operated the Third & Spruce Café in West Reading since 1983 and is proud of the fact that he has helped West Reading be what it is today turning the café into a Berks County mainstay for both friends and families to enjoy. John’s business acumen has allowed him to become Vice-Chairman of the West Reading Main Street Authority and serve on the Wyomissing Economic Development Committee.

As a longtime resident of Wyomissing and lifelong resident of Berks, Woodward has sought to serve his community in other ways ranging from the Wyomissing Recreation Board to being on the Berks Crime Alert Board. He has additionally served on Wyomissing Borough Council and was Chair of the Foundation for the Reading Public Museum from 2003 to 2005.

As a demonstration of bi-partisan support, newly elected Democratic county commissioner Kevin S. Barnhardt and former Berks County Republican Party Chair, James J. Manganell, will serve as co-chairs of John Woodward’s campaign committee.

John lives in Wyomissing with his wife Peggy and his two daughters Kay 15, and Gail, 17.

Below is a list of John’s experience and community involvement as well as contact information for John. We invite all media to contact him at their convenience.
